Created for a client, this one-of-a-kind Robbins R.1CA was inspired by photographs of cherry blossoms taken during a trip to Japan. Tyler Robbins transformed that personal memory into a continuous visual composition, pairing an Italian spruce soundboard with richly colored Madagascar rosewood and a vivid palette of soft pink blossoms and deep blue artwork. The design begins beside the soundhole and rises naturally onto the fingerboard, where branches, blossoms, and waterfall forms continue toward the headstock. Rather than treating each inlay as a separate decorative element, Robbins connected the rosette, fingerboard, and headplate into a single flowing scene. Blue tuner buttons and matching bridge-pin details complete the visual continuity without distracting from the clean Italian spruce top. On the back, a slender blue center inlay is crossed by another cluster of cherry blossoms, standing in vivid contrast against the dark red and brown figure of the Madagascar rosewood. Combined with the Florentine cutaway and sculpted bevels, the result is an instrument whose modern geometry and botanical artwork remain balanced throughout—an individual guitar shaped around the owner’s own experience and imagery.
