This one-of-a-kind Robbins R.1CA pairs an Italian spruce soundboard with an expressive set of Brazilian rosewood. Rather than beginning with a predetermined ornament package, Tyler Robbins developed the visual concept specifically for the instrument, creating and refining multiple sketches before arriving at the final composition. The design was inspired by the contrasting textures of white Crackstone and flamed koa. The resulting geometric theme extends throughout the guitar—from the asymmetrical rosette to the fingerboard, headstock, back center strip, and end graft. Each element was first organized through CAD and then executed through a combination of CNC precision and detailed handwork. The pale, gold-veined Crackstone and warm flamed koa create an elegant contrast against the darker Brazilian rosewood while maintaining a consistent visual language across the entire instrument. Brazilian rosewood was also selected for the body binding and arm bevel, with close attention given to the direction and continuity of the grain. Rather than overwhelming the natural beauty of the tonewoods, the inlay work serves as a series of carefully placed visual accents—allowing the Brazilian rosewood to remain the central focus of this highly individual R.1CA.
