The Orchestra Model originated in 1929 when Martin created a 14-fret guitar for banjoist Perry Bechtel. Its combination of increased upper-fret access, a comfortable auditorium-size body and a longer 25.4-inch scale established one of the most influential steel-string designs of the early 1930s. Pre-War’s OM BR pairs this long-scale platform with a torrefied Adirondack spruce top and Brazilian rosewood back and sides. The longer scale gives the OM greater bark, bite and projection than its short-scale 000 counterpart, while hot-hide-glue bracing and a traditional dovetail neck joint support the dry, aged response central to Pre-War’s construction approach.
