Australian-born luthier Rye Bear began making guitars at the age of fifteen after growing up woodworking alongside his father, a traditional timber framer and wooden boat builder. He went on to complete a seven-year apprenticeship with Australian luthier and acoustic researcher Graham Caldersmith, developing a foundation in both traditional craftsmanship and musical acoustics.
Bear combines modern bracing systems with resonance tuning to create highly responsive instruments with exceptional volume, sustain, clarity, and projection. His steel-string guitars feature carbon-fibre-reinforced falcate bracing, allowing the soundboard to remain light and responsive while maintaining the strength required to withstand string tension.
Designed particularly for contemporary fingerstyle players, his range includes the Small Jumbo, OM, Grand 00, and Super Parlour. Each instrument is individually resonance-tuned to deliver a broad dynamic range, rich tonal complexity, and a remarkably open voice across the entire fingerboard.
