Chris Morimoto Guitars

Heirloom-quality acoustic instruments built one at a time

Born in Los Angeles and raised in California, Chris Morimoto began his formal training at the Galloup School of Guitar Building. After graduating, he spent approximately a year and a half working with Bryan Galloup before returning to California in 2006 to begin an apprenticeship with renowned luthier Ervin Somogyi.

Morimoto remained an integral part of the Somogyi workshop for many years, developing extensive experience in acoustic design, construction, voicing, and fine handwork. He also became a trusted source of guidance for later Somogyi apprentices, contributing to a workshop tradition that emphasizes a deep understanding of how each structural element shapes the instrument’s voice.

Now building guitars under his own name, Morimoto applies this experience to highly responsive steel-string acoustics with exceptional touch sensitivity, dynamic range, and tonal depth. Each instrument is individually constructed and voiced, carrying forward the responsive-guitar tradition while expressing Morimoto’s own refined and understated craftsmanship.
